Advanced Skills Baccalaureate Wales

Challenge
Promoting lifelong learning, active citizenship and personal growth through a bold new qualification identity. Qualifications Wales were launching a new and unique Level 3 qualification in Wales. Distinct from GCEs and other Level 3 qualifications, the new Advanced Skills Baccalaureate Wales had an emphasis on skills for lifelong-learning, employment and active citizenship. Another key feature of the course was that learners would enjoy a high degree of autonomy and personal choice in tailoring their areas of study to match their interests and future ambitions.

Solution
A bold and distinctive logo which works universally across digital and printed formats. A graphic ‘B’ character, constructed from 3 individual shapes, each representing a core principle of the course: a rectangle, to signify practical skills; a hexagon, to denote versatility; and a circle, to show unity through active citizenship.

The beauty of this three-shape design is that it can easily be rearranged to create multiple icons representing different skill sets and modules used as part of the course. This flexibility allows us to create a range of icons and patterns that are unique, yet recognisable as part of an overall identity.

Results
Client rollout has helped establish the qualification as a leading post-16 option in Wales. With a strong focus on critical thinking, creativity, and practical problem-solving, it meets the needs of today’s learners and future employers. The new brand has been instrumental in shaping and communicating this distinct identity, helping the qualification stand out within a competitive educational landscape.
